Landlord wants 2 years rent upfront — is this now normal?

Just got told 2 years upfront is the new standard in my area (Ikeja). Anyone else seeing this trend, and any tips for negotiating it down to 1 year?

It varies a lot by area, but 2 years upfront has become more common. Some landlords will accept 1 year plus a slightly higher rate if you ask directly.
